User Management

Airports are powered by a wide range of teams, working simultaneously to keep operations running smoothly. While some workers are focused on the air — tracking flights and organising the runway — others are on the ground, loading cargo, transporting passengers and keeping everyone safe.

With so many people involved in daily operations, user management becomes critical to an airport’s success. Teams need the data that’s relevant for them, delivered at the time they need it. And security is of utmost importance too — you don’t want business-critical, sensitive data falling into the wrong hands.

The state-of-the-art role management and delegation system in AMELIA empowers fine-grained access control tuning down to a field level. End-users experience a seamless interaction with the platform through personalised content, while the business rest assured that everyone has what they need — and nothing they don’t.

Bi-temporal Custom Data Management

The Bi-temporal Custom Data Management module gives unique access to the building blocks of Core Operational Asset Data and allows the user to change the data structure. This includes minor changes — like adding more properties on aircraft types — and larger ones, like creating entirely new data types. The module gives full control to the flexible part of the data structure and allows for modifications to data and thereby also the use of data, both directly and by other modules, for flight record enrichment for example.

Data is handled bi-temporally, as well as flexibly. All data is automatically enhanced with a start and an end time/date, making it possible for the user to specify validity periods and control the use of data over time, while the system automatically ensures correct and valid relations between datasets.

For utmost management and control, platform administrators can layer an approval process on all data changes. This means no change will take place without being approved.

Key Functionality
  • Specify start and end times/dates on all data, and concurrently apply different values to different periods.
  • Adapt the data structure as needed, thanks to AMELIA’s dynamic data model
  • Distribute data model changes to all stakeholders, automatically.
  • Support for data change approvals.
Benefits
  • Validity periods allow for preparation of future data – and correction of historical data.
  • Validity periods together with registration times allow for full historical insight.
  • The data structure can be changed by the end-user using business insight and without technical (and costly) involvement.
  • Changes to the data structure can be applied instantly by the end-user (unless an approval process is in place) without asking for the rebuild and redeployment of the software.

Flight Schedule Management

Planning of airport activities, and ultimately passenger forecasting, is key for raising efficiency, improving safety, reducing emissions and controlling operational cost. The AMELIA Flight Schedule Management module allows for maximum resource utilisation across multiple planning scenarios.

  • Improve control and management efficiency in airport operations, Using "what if" scenario simulations for operational flight planning, scheduling and management processes.
  • Better predictability and turnaround efficiency for the airport and improved customer satisfaction.
Future Perspectives

The Flight Schedule Management module is being developed continuously, with new features added in each development cycle.

The  Schedule Maturity Score is one such feature. Based on AI, the system can continuously activate flight records allowing for early planning.

When the planning process for a new season begins, airports continuously receive schedule entries – as the process proceeds, the plan is updated regularly with changes, additions and cancellations. Only once the plan stabilises can it be activated, because once it is activated, airport operations are planned according to the capacity required.

Activating a high quality seasonal plan, as early as possible, is a strong advantage for airports — allowing them to plan operations ahead of time. However, before activating a plan, the airport must determine if the plan is mature enough for activation. A plan is considered mature once its data has reached reliability. And that’s where the AMELIA Schedule Maturity Score comes in.

The AMELA system calculates a “maturity score” for each entry, indicating how reliable the data entries are. The score is calculated using artificial intelligence (AI) based on a combination of different parameters and data sources. For example:

  • Historic data – It is likely that a plan is reliable once it is relatively similar to previous seasons.
  • Update frequency – It is likely that the plan is reliable once the frequency of updates is low and stabilised.

The score is expressed as a percentage and can be aggregated on route, airline and overall season level too.

Resource Allocation and Planning (Stand & gate config.)

Optimal planning, and correct allocation, of resources is vital to the efficient and safe operation of an airport. The AMELIA Resource Allocation and Planning module allows for registration of airport assets and capabilities related to aircraft parking. It supports resource allocation and impact assessments related to in-operative events too.

Key Functionality

The Resource Allocation and Planning module allows for the aeronautical infrastructure to be registered and allocated to flight operations.

  • Easy registration of airport assets and relations, e.g. Gates, Stands, Jet Bridges and Equipment available.
  • Greater management of Aircraft Parking Rules – which aircraft types can park at given stands, which stop lines and parking methods to use, and proper jet bridge positioning to reach aircraft doors.
  • Registration and display of In-Operative status, e.g. planned maintenance or operational outages.
  • Open API for integration with external systems – expose assets and configurations to resource management systems and receive allocations to flight operations; provide operational for Docking Guidance System and Jet Bridge units; and receive and expose (in-)operational status.
Benefits

The Resource Allocation and Planning module provides value by combining the asset registry with operational allocations. This enables:

  • Clear visibility of resources and configurations, e.g. fuel pits and power supplies available at the stand allocated to a flight operation.
  • Automatic identification of operational impacts, e.g. automatically requesting marshaller assistance to flight operations in case of malfunctioning Docking Guidance System.
  • An overview of in-operative assets, displayed via the shared Operational Dashboard, for complete awareness from  all stakeholders, e.g. alerting ground handlers to bring mobile equipment.
Future Perspectives

The Resource Allocation and Planning module is continuously being enhanced with new features and capabilities.

Optimisation, Planning and Allocation of Fixed and Mobile Resources:

  • Stand, gates, check-in desks, baggage belts – utilise scheduled traffic plans, number of passengers, resource capabilities and operational status to achieve optimal resource utilisation and positive passenger experience.
  • Mobile stairs, tow trucks, ground power and air conditioning units – utilise location tracking and geofencing to alert in case of non-optimal asset placements and prepare for rearrangements if needed for optimal handling of air traffic operations.

Optimisation and Planning of Preventive Maintenance and Facility Management:

  • Optimise cleaning of restrooms, lounge areas or corridors by combining flight operations allocated to gates, number of passengers arriving/departing, location of gates and toilets/restrooms with estimated percentage of passengers utilising restrooms on arrival or departure.
  • Mark resources as in-operative, or with reduced capacity, to prevent or restrict use during periods of maintenance.
